Over Extended?
Many of us, myself included, have chosen to take care of others, and this often goes along with putting our own self care last thing on the list. This over extension of our energy is also seen in the way we hold ourselves physically. Imagine over-reaching and having to lock our knees and elbows, in order to help someone else. This type of action or postural stance may leave us weak kneed and weak armed.
Being conscious of our movement patterns helps us to regain centering balance. Notice how you stand. Are your knees locked? When you carry something, is your arm fully extended, or do you retain a slight bend in the elbow? Becoming conscious of these patterns is the first step in helping your limbs be stronger, and your joints last longer.
Remember that muscle is more resilient than bone. Take the weight off your joints when you lift, stand or help another. You will help strengthen those muscles by being more conscious of your postural patterns.
